Pepe de Lucía is the stage name of José Sánchez Gomes is a flamenco singer and producer. He was born in Algeciras in 1945. His second name, Gomesm comes from his Portuguese education maintenance allowance mother, Lucía Gomes. Together with his brother, guitarist Paco de Lucía, he began his professional career as Pepe de Algeciras. Together they formed the Los Chiquitos de Algeciras group that a good result achieved in the Concurso Internacional de Jerez de la Frontera in 1962. Accompanying his brother Paco as a singer during his national and international breakthrough, but he has also worked with other greats of flamenco like Jose Greco. He also wrote lyrics for Camarón de la Isla, Remedios Amaya and Alejandro Sanz. He also worked on the scenarios for the different groups of Antonio Gades. He received the award for Best Flamenco Album at the Grammy Latino 2003 pvoor his album "El corazón de mi gente". He is also the father of Spanish singer Malú.
